National 4-H Dairy Conference was a huge learning experience for me. Before I came to Conference, I was unsure if there were careers in agriculture that matched my interests and skills. Through listening to speakers, taking hands-on classes and visiting famous dairy locations, I grew my understanding of the dairy industry and the jobs available in it.
The opportunity to hear and talk with people from all parts of the dairy world was one of the most valuable parts of Dairy Conference to me. During meals speakers presented on various aspects of dairy, from nutrition and reproduction to communications and technology. On the day we split into smaller seminar groups, I was able to learn more about specific topics and job areas I found interesting.
One of the highlights was a tour including the Hoard’s Dairyman Farm.
Attending Dairy Conference also gave me the chance to visit places I would never have gone on my own. Our tour locations included Hoard’s Dairyman Publishing and Farm, National Dairy Shrine, ABS and World Dairy Expo, among others. I discovered how eager people at each location were to encourage me and answer questions for the Dairy Conference delegates.
